Our Call to Action

Prioritize Rational Spending at City Hall

For quite some time, our City of Saskatoon officials have operated under the assumption that they can manage your finances more effectively than you can - hence the annual increments in taxes and fees, new under utilized services, and increasing fees every time you turn around.

While it's argued that all governmental expenditures contribute positively to our society, the reality is that these types of statements don’t always have the data to back them once they are in practice.

Leading up to now, City Hall's expenditure has ballooned by $100,000,000 in the last five years - do you perceive a proportional enhancement in service quality corresponding to the city's budget surge? Do you know the current average interest rate for the City of Saskatoon hovers around 4.5%. The cost of servicing the monumental volume of current, and future debt will negatively affect us and future generations.

  • “Solar farm project near Saskatoon's Montgomery neighbourhood back on city's agenda” “The project was originally approved last fall at a cost of $4.25 million” “Administration is recommending the project go forward with the original proposed design at cost about $8.5 million.” As reported by CBC News on May 06, 2024

“Downtown Saskatoon library dream reduced in size, but not price” “Those who show up will presumably be celebrating a smaller version of the new downtown library for the same $134-million price tag.” As reported by Saskatoon StarPhoenix on May 31, 2024

“City staff propose $22 million composting facility for Saskatoon” “The city-owned facility would cost an estimated $22.1 million to build. The plan presented to the committee calls for these funds to be borrowed, since an application for funds from the federal government was unsuccessful.” As reported by Saskatoon StarPhoenix on April 2, 2024

Receptive, Rational,

Reasonable.

Check out some of the things Council has spent your money on:

▶ $116,000 on a free-energy coaching service for homeowners who want to be more energy efficient - only 3 sessions were held, thats almost $40,000 per session.

▶ Since 2018, the city has hiked property tax rates by 19 per cent. During the same time, the city increased spending by 13 per cent. The city hired 275 additional bureaucrats over those five years.

▶$100,000 for a 'one-of-a-kind lighting project' - that essentially lights up dumpsters in an unsafe back alley.

These are just a few examples of misplaced priorities our council has been spending YOUR hard-earned money on. Check out the drop down menu below for even more!
